Lift doors, also known as elevator doors, come in various configurations depending on factors like space efficiency, traffic flow, and aesthetics. Here's a breakdown of the common types:

Opening Mechanism:

  • Automatic Doors: These are the most common type nowadays. They slide open and closed electronically, ensuring smooth operation and passenger safety through features like safety sensors.

  • Manual Doors: Less frequent these days, manual doors require passengers to physically open and close them. You might find them in older buildings or freight elevators.

Door Configuration:

  • Side Sliding Doors: This is the most widely used automatic door. A single or double panel slides sideways to open, offering space efficiency.

  • Center Parting Doors: Another popular automatic option, these doors consist of two or more panels that slide open from the center outwards. This allows for faster opening and closing, ideal for high-traffic areas.

  • Swing Doors: These operate similarly to regular hinged doors, but can be automatic or manual. Swing doors might be used in specific situations where space for sliding doors is limited.

Special Applications:

  • Telescopic Doors: These doors utilize interlocking panels that extend outwards when opening, creating a wider entrance. This is useful for freight elevators or situations where oversized items need to be transported.

  • Folding Doors: Similar to bus doors, these doors fold inwards or outwards to create a larger opening. They might be used in specific applications where space is a major concern.

  • Bespoke Doors: For unique architectural styles or special requirements, custom-designed doors can be created. These doors might incorporate special materials, finishes, or functionalities.

Additional Considerations:

  • Materials: Elevator doors are typically made of metal (stainless steel being a common choice) or glass for a more transparent look. Fire-rated doors are required in specific situations to meet safety regulations.

  • Door Activation: Doors can be activated through buttons, proximity sensors, or keypads depending on the application and security needs.

By understanding these different types of lift doors, architects, building owners, and elevator companies can choose the most suitable option for each project, ensuring optimal functionality, safety, and aesthetics.
